Many visitors to Thailand have a whirlwind holiday to see all the amazing temples, ride the elephants, sample all the great Thai foods, do a lot of shopping and go to all the amazing sites all crammed into a vacation period of a couple of weeks or so. Coming and going with little time to simply relax. I understand that, because there are so many exciting things to experience in Thailand. There are others, however, that want to come to Northern Thailand to escape all the busyness of their lives and totally relax in a quiet garden house amongst the farms just outside a Thai village. These people stay for a month or two or three, and come back to their fast pace lives as a new person energized.
Today I visited one such quaint and quiet little guest house resort that provides this back-to- nature relaxation. It’s run by a couple of women that are very much into nature and gardening and artistry, and it is called Ciao Ciao Chiangmai. It’s not for everybody, but it is perfect for those that want to stay in an authentic Thai style bungalow in a garden of fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. Each little house is unique, constructed from old Thai wood that is as much a part of the landscape of the property as the tropical foliage all around the little resort. Old doors and windows have been reconstructed into tables and wall art. Each cottage is built on stilts to overlook the gardens, and you can sit out on the little balcony with tropical birds providing the background music.
The owners have a very unusual small mushroom farm on the side of one of the cottages where guests can pick mushrooms and have them fried up fresh. And depending on the time of the year, there is fresh fruit for the pickings in the garden.
Ciao Ciao Chiangmai is not a luxury resort, but a resort built around nature for those that want a calm, quiet getaway. Many of the floors are made from old tropical hardwood timbers. You are likely to see a Gecko or two on the wall. But each bedroom is equipped with air conditioning and a small bathroom and a very comfortable bed. On the surface it appears a bit rustic, but it is also very comfortable. They have cottages that can accommodate 2 to 4 people, with just 5 cottages presently on the whole property, but there will be a few more soon as they convert some of the old farm buildings into rental cottages.
Ciao Ciao Chiangmai is located in the Sanpatong area of Chiang Mai just south of the city center area by 22kl. (about 11 miles). The area is surrounded by rice fields and vegetable farms just a short distance off the Hang Dong Road (hwy 108).
The cost for staying at this little resort is very little. The monthly rate varies from less than USD $275 (8000Baht) for a small cottage for two up to high of about USD $500 (15000Baht) for a two bedroom, two bath cottage for 4. There also rates for week long stays and a daily rate, which you can see for each cottage on the rate page of the Ciao Ciao Chiangmai website. If you book through this blog or the Top Thai Tours website, you will get a 5% discount. You can send any inquiries to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
